本片是导演杰拉·巴布鲁阿尼重拍自己2005年执导的法语黑白片《百万杀人游戏》，主人公塞巴斯蒂安整日的工作就是替别人家修补房顶。有一天房主收到一封信，却因吸毒过量而死。风把信吹到了塞巴斯蒂安劳作的工具上，他还在房顶上意外偷听到这封信能够带来巨大财富的秘密。于是，按照信封中的火车票和路线，塞巴斯蒂安拿到了13号标签，赌命游戏也随之拉开了序幕。
